This Privacy Policy explains how GloBite LLC, a Wisconsin limited liability company ("GloBite", "we", "us", or "our"), collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the GloBite mobile app for Android and iOS and related services (the "Service"). GloBite LLC is the developer of the app and is responsible for (the "controller" of) your personal information.
By using the Service, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
The Service is intended for users 16 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child under 16 has provided us personal information, contact us at support@globite.app and we will delete it.
Account information: email address, password (stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider), and username.
Profile information: profile photo (avatar) and, if you choose to create one, an alias (a second display name) with its own avatar.
Posts: text, hashtags, photos, an optional place name, the location of the post, who can see it (everyone or friends only), and whether it is shown under your username, your alias, or anonymously.
Interactions: comments, likes and dislikes, comment likes, follows, friend requests and friendships, and posts or people you subscribe to for notifications.
Reports: when you report a post, the post, the reason, and any details you provide.
Settings and records: notification preferences and a record of when you accepted our Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy.
Communications: messages you send us (for example, support requests).
GloBite is a map-based app, so location is central to how it works.
Device location (precise, foreground only). If you grant permission, the app uses your device's precise location while the app is in use to center the map near you and to set the location of a post you create. We do not collect your location in the background, and we do not keep a history of your movements.
Post location. When you publish a post, we store the post's precise coordinates. The post is shown at that location on the public map to other users (or only to your friends, if you chose friends-only). Anyone who can see the post can see where it was made.
Map and place lookups. When you browse or search the map, the app sends the map area you are viewing, coordinates, or your search text to our servers and our mapping provider to load posts, show place names, and apply safety features.
You can turn off location permission in your device settings at any time. Some features (such as posting at your current location) will not work without it.
We access your camera or photo library only when you choose to take or attach a photo for a post or avatar, and we upload only the photos you select. The app does not record audio.
Push notification token: a device token used to deliver notifications. It is removed from our servers when you sign out.
Technical and log data: when the app communicates with our servers and service providers, they automatically receive standard request information such as IP address, device and operating-system type, and timestamps, which may be recorded in their logs for security and reliability.
Map software data: the map software built into the app, provided by Mapbox, may collect limited technical and usage information as described in Mapbox's privacy policy.
The app stores some information locally on your device, such as your sign-in session, preferences, and recent activity (for example, recent searches and your last map position). This information stays on your device and is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data.
We use information to:
create and manage your account and authenticate you;
provide core features: posting, the map, place search, following, friends, comments, likes, and notifications;
display your content and post locations to other users as you have chosen;
moderate content for safety and policy compliance, including automated image scanning (see Section 5);
apply safety features and enforce our Terms of Service;
send you the notifications you have enabled;
maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, investigate reports, and fix problems;
respond to your requests and communicate with you about your account or the Service;
comply with legal obligations; and
improve the Service.
We do not sell your personal information.
Legal bases (where GDPR or similar laws apply): performance of our contract with you (providing the Service), your consent (for example, device location, camera, photos, and notifications, which you can withdraw at any time), our legitimate interests (security, moderation, preventing abuse, and improving the Service), and compliance with legal obligations.
Your username and avatar are visible to other users. If you create an alias, the alias and alias avatar are visible to other users.
Posts you make visible to everyone, including their text, photos, hashtags, place name, and location on the map, can be seen by any GloBite user. Friends-only posts can be seen by your friends.
Your comments, and the fact that you follow someone or are their friend, may be visible to other users.
People who can see your content may copy, save, or re-share it.
Do not post anything you want to keep private.
Aliases and anonymous posts. Posting under an alias or anonymously changes the name shown to other users. It is not a guarantee of anonymity: GloBite associates all of your content with your account, and someone may still be able to identify you from what you post, where you post it, or other information.
We share information with the following types of service providers only as needed to operate the Service:
Cloud hosting and database providers: to run our servers and store your account information, content, photos, and post locations.
Mapping providers: to display maps, show place names, and support place search (coordinates, map areas, and search text).
Content moderation providers: to automatically scan uploaded photos for safety.
Notification delivery services, including Google (Android) and Apple (iOS): to deliver notifications (push token and notification content).
App development and distribution services: to build, update, and distribute the app.
These providers process information on our behalf, only for the purposes above, and under their own privacy and security terms. You can request a list of our current service providers by contacting support@globite.app.
We may disclose information:
to law enforcement, government authorities, or others when we believe in good faith that it is required by law or legal process, or necessary to prevent harm or illegal activity;
to report suspected child sexual exploitation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement, as required by law;
to protect the rights, property, and safety of GloBite, our users, or the public, and to enforce our Terms of Service;
to professional advisers (such as lawyers and accountants) under confidentiality obligations; and
in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of our business, in which case this Privacy Policy will continue to apply to your information.
We may also share information with your consent or at your direction.
We do not sell your personal information.
To keep the Service safe, photos you upload for posts and avatars are automatically scanned by a moderation provider for content that violates our policies. As part of our child-safety protections, this scanning may estimate whether a person in a photo appears to be a minor. We use these results only for moderation. We do not use them to identify anyone, and we do not create or store facial-recognition templates.
Content that violates our policies or is reported by other users may be reviewed, hidden, or removed under our Terms of Service.
Account information is kept while your account exists.
Posts, comments, and other content are kept until you delete them or your account is deleted, unless we remove them sooner.
Push tokens are removed when you sign out or your account is deleted.
Records of reports and moderation decisions are kept as long as reasonably needed for safety and to enforce our Terms, and may be kept longer where required by law (for example, records of suspected illegal content).
Technical log data held by our service providers is kept for limited periods according to their retention schedules.
Information on your device stays there until you uninstall the app or clear its data.
When your account is deleted, we delete your personal information as described in Section 7, except where we must keep it to comply with law, resolve disputes, or prevent abuse.
To delete your GloBite account and its associated data, email support@globite.app from the email address on your account with the subject "Delete my account." We may ask you to confirm the request to protect your account. We will complete the deletion within 30 days and confirm by email.
When your account is deleted, we permanently delete:
your account and profile information (email address, username, alias, and avatars);
your posts, including their photos and locations; and
your comments, reactions, follows, friends, subscriptions, notifications, settings, and related records.
We may keep limited information after deletion only where required by law, to resolve disputes, or for safety (for example, records about content reported to authorities). Backup copies are removed on our normal backup cycle.
You can also delete individual posts at any time from your profile in the app without deleting your account.
Permissions. You can turn location, camera, photo, and notification permissions on or off in your device settings.
Notifications. You can choose which notifications you receive in the app's Settings.
Your content. You can delete your posts and change or remove your avatar in the app.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal information; object to or restrict certain processing; withdraw consent; and lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. To make a request, contact support@globite.app. We will respond within the time required by applicable law and may need to verify your identity first.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and disclose it, and to request access, correction, and deletion. We do not sell or "share" (for cross-context behavioral advertising) personal information, and we do not use sensitive personal information (including precise location) for purposes beyond providing the Service. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including encrypting data in transit. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
GloBite is based in the United States, and your information is processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. These countries may have different data protection laws than where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, for these transfers.
The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 16, we will delete it. See Section 1.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you in the app (and may ask you to accept the updated policy) and update the "Last updated" date above.
